Keys to Meditation
Meditation can prepare us for change. Through this practise Dr Joe Dispenza says we can re-write our brains. He is the scientist who claims that each morning he creates his day. He plans his life so the things he wants to happen, do happen. To do this he says we need to take back control by harmonising the mind/body structure. To do this we must change the neurological/chemical responses in the brain, re-wiring the structure of our brain by letting go of rigid beliefs; recognising who we are and how this came to be and surrendering these faults to the divine being residing within. He says that by approaching this new way of living we will be re-wiring our brains.
Meditation can develop new neurological pathways. This silent, mind-less practice keeps our awareness returning to the present. The mind’s constant chatter needs to cease if we are to become aware of the spacious realms of consciousness. Concentrating on the breath can assist in bringing our attention to this ever-present ‘now’. Focussed intention on our breathing will deny the mind’s needs to slip into past memories or future expectations. Our body consciousness always exists in the now, but the mind seldom is. By repeating this practice over time we will regulate our nervous system, produce alpha waves which bring order to the chemical changes in the body. By using a form of concentration and repetition we can re build the functions we want from our brain. We are in control.
In addition to this form of silent meditation, we can also use sound as a method of bringing about positive chemical changes. Using highly developed music such as Mozart or Bach and following each note so that the sound becomes the reality we can begin to affect our brain. The pineal gland sit in close proximity to the electrical and chemical impulses that begin in the eyes and ears and when I use music, such as Schumann’s Piano Concerto, I actually find myself - with my eyes closed - watching the movement of the music. This exercise alters my conscious state in a remarkable way.
Another form of meditation is visualisation and in another blog I will talk about exercises we can do to again alter our state of awareness and bring harmony to our emotional state.
