Discovering Our Heart’s Intelligence
This dialogue is dedicated to those who are feel limited by some aspect of their lives; maybe suffering chronic pain; crippled; immobile; deeply depressed; growing old; dying; or are simply in need of a new direction.
Forward.
These 20 dialogues offer ideas that are either unknown or distorted by our mainstream culture.
These concepts of an inner life; of an intelligent heart; and a life that continues after Earthly death are only controversial to the rational mind of the West. Such knowledge has always been available to older cultures where there is an awareness that mankind lives a much larger life than the every day materialistic reality driving our ‘First World’ system. For instance, the philosophy of ancient Egypt held the view that the heart was the gateway to the soul yet these days Science regards the heart to be nothing more than a sophisticated pump.
Ironically then, it would seem that a few of the more ’awesome’ scientific minds are beginning to return us to our roots. It is with great respect and appreciation that I acknowledge the discoveries and insights of these brilliant physicists working at the cutting edge of reality. Not only are they giving us back our lost heritage but they are stripping away all the unnecessary ritual and superstition that has built up over the centuries allowing this old knowledge to be being given to us with a new clarity.

1st Discourse
The words that follow offer you the chance to turn away from all fear and suffering by accepting that there is a greater part of you - your core self – waiting to be recognised. This finely tuned intelligence exists beyond your present torment. To capture a glimpse of your ‘other self’ you might like to try this exercise: Place all your fingers at the centre of your chest; concentrate on this pressure as you slowly begin to ‘feel’ this extraordinary focal point – your heart. Breathe deeply and stay centred in this place of calm. If you do not feel anything the first time, persist. This inner ‘intelligence’ is always waiting for you. Because for some, it may take time to make contact, do not lose heart. It will happen eventually.
2nd Discourse
Another way to make contact and ‘drop down into your heart’ is to pretend you have a nose in the middle of your chest; now gently begin to breathe through this nose. As you start to breathe in this new way your mind will become quiet allowing a part of you to move beyond all pain. You are now breathing through your heart. Some of you will physically feel a change. As you breathe, focus on the present moment. Accept that nothing else is real. Allow a pleasant calmness to fill your mind. Over time you will find you are able to open your awareness to new feelings of peace. This is the ‘Conscious Now’ where there are no chattering thoughts. You are operating through the intelligence of the heart, starting a journey that will take you beyond what you know as normal reality. As you breathe in this new way - through your heart - allow your imagination to create a special place of rest and contemplation where you can go at any time. Many people think they are unworthy or unable to move into these inner realms. This is wrong. Such thoughts stem from a mind that is automatically churning out old negative beliefs and like all belief this can be altered in a second if you so choose. It is possible to change instantly, just as it is possible for everybody to access their Inner Self, so begin to trust and simply let go.
3rd Discourse
Breathing in this new way - through your heart - really means you are opening up to the wisdom of this centre. Neurotransmitters have been found in the heart and the new sciences are reporting that the heart has its own form of memory. Research has also shown that brain-wiring has a bias towards negativity which they believe was developed because of the ancient survival issues of our stone-age ancestors. These new findings are at the cutting edge of medicine. It could be that you have never contacted your inner life or entered the sacred region of the heart before, even though this powerful zone has always been there. With this new information you have a chance to move beyond your physical limitations, discovering new ways of understanding your place in this world. If your rational mind wants to dismiss this wondrous information remember it is wired to be negative. Move past these doubtful thoughts and allow yourself to feel your heart’s intelligence.
4th Discourse
Knowing the fact that there is a different form of intelligence located in the depth of your being immediately allows you a new experience. It may sound so foreign that it is hard to believe, but it has been documented by science, so what have you got to lose? Your life might be extremely uncomfortable right now but once you are in your heart-space you automatically become more positive. A new type of awareness will trigger a deeper level of understanding. You will begin to realise that you are more than just a body! To drop down into your heart is to awaken a much more subtle form of intelligence It will open the doorway to another part of yourself: A part that exists beyond your physical body, beyond the pain and stress, beyond the fearful threat of your fragile mortality. Your awareness of an inner life is just as real and just as important as your awareness of your physical existence.
5th Discourse
Breathing, relaxing, allowing yourself to enter this new realm will bring more than peace; it will turn the key to a part of ‘you’ that has been locked away since early childhood. To know you are more than a body means that your physical deterioration is just one part of your existence. Up until now daily events may have filled your life. Normal everyday happenings are automatically familiar, but a life that is so familiar can actually be a burden if you wish to lighten your load. What is ‘known’ or ‘safe’ can tend to block our ability to change. Unlocking this hidden part of you means your daily life can become more profound. Such a focus will enable you learn how to turn away from what is normal in order to embrace a much larger existence. It might help if you remind yourself that your consciousness is an energy field reaching far beyond your physical body. Of course, being energy, it is obvious that this part of you can never die.
6th Discourse
Do not fear your illness, your sadness, your depression. Know that you now have a method of moving beyond the suffering. By breathing into your heart, relaxing and letting go of the ‘normal’ world, you have a chance to discover the miracle of who you really are. In fact, eventually you might become thankful that your present state of distress has led you into the world of the heart. Your true self is the self that lives both within and beyond the heart’s intelligence and is connected to all things. It can never die for it is locked within the pure energy of consciousness; out of reach of the negative thoughts of the physical brain. If your mind tries to interrupt just breathe, smile and shake yourself free of this negativity. Accept that this is your choice! Over the centuries this inner ‘self’ has been given many names: Soul, The Higher Self, God’s Voice, Angels, Spirit, Guides, The Light…and many others; names that are found in all religions. Here, in these discourses, it is easier to refer to this intelligence as the inner part of you. Indeed you can give IT whatever name you like because the power of this inner intelligence is forever the same no matter what label you give it. Remember this flow of vital energy will always lead you to a better understanding of who you really are!
7th Discourse
You are more than your physical form; more than the stress your body is suffering; more than the torture of a mind that knows nothing but depression and fear. Accept that you are more than this. Breathe deeply and allow yourself to float away from your present limitations. As you lift from your present state, allow yourself to open up to the larger, wiser ‘you’. Be at peace as your wisdom and insights offer a new vista. Know that dying is just a stage of life, as birth is just a stage of life. Know that depression is a form of resistance brought about by the thoughts your ego persists in thinking. Know that being unworthy or unloved is a belief that you have allowed to become your truth, and that these beliefs are old habits you can choose to discard. It is your choice! Then, in this wider reality there will be no resistance because you have learned to let go. Do not become discouraged if once you have discovered this new state, forlornly you seem to forget, seem to slip back into the old ways. It takes time to re-program the mind and if you do this often enough, new programs will replace your negativity. Old beliefs, habits, and thoughts will gradually disappear then you will know what freedom really means. But even if the change is slow, you will still have the profound experience of discovering who you really are – even if it is in tiny snippets.
8th Discourse
Life is more than what you are dealing with right now. If you can let go of you troubles - even for a moment - and drop down into the sphere of the heart, you will immediately feel relief. Let go of the binding thoughts that are locking you into this prison you call life. Let go by breathing through the heart, allowing the peace of the heart’s intelligence to release you from all physical resistance. To know you can do this at any time, unbinds you from the ties of your physical body and your negative thoughts. You are not your body, so even if the body is worn, ill or stressed, you are not! You are much more than a physical body; much more than the sensations of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. At the deepest levels; at the levels of quantum reality, you are part of a stream of intelligent energy. You can access this energy now by turning inward and accepting that it is there. Just by opening up in this way, your core-self will joyously make contact. It may not be a voice or a sound you hear, it maybe a feeling. Become aware of these subtleties because they will bring you to a new space. All life on this planet must die, but the entity that is at your centre, YOU, is beyond the physical. IT will never die
9th Discourse
So….can you accept that the most important part of you will never die? Most people never get the chance to know this; be thankful that your present condition has led you to this knowledge. Be thankful that at a time of the greatest stress you have suddenly learned that you are more than your body. Be thankful that you have time (right now) to explore what is normally thought of as an unknown mystery. By breathing through the heart, by gently allowing yourself to drift away from your every day world, you can give your consent to connect with your newly discovered Self, knowing that it will lead you into awe-inspiring knowledge and vast joy.
10th Discourse
Breathing and breathing…. and gently relaxing… let your mind drift away from your suffering. Know that the left side of the brain – the rational brain – will be resisting this new experience because it needs always to assess, to measure, and to judge. By entering your inner realm, you move out of the influence of your dictatorial and often negative left brain. This new wisdom is connected to the right brain, the realm of intuition and imagination. The sphere of the right cortex has connections with the deepest part of you; it also has knowledge of eternity – this again has been proven through the experience of a brain scientist who was also a stroke victim. In this case while the blood clot shut down her left brain, the right cortex was still freely experiencing the universe. Amazingly the patient was fully aware of what was happening as she flowed in and out of Eternity. So the right brain is not limited to daily life, it will allow you to experience the world of your imagination. Breathe into your heart and discover these new aspects of limitless space, limitless joy, and limitless appreciation. It is now understood that intuition supplies information far more rapidly than calculating reason. A ’gut’ feeling is instantaneous. It is part of our right brain function, so allow your spontaneous ‘knowing’ to flow freely, and listen to its wisdom.
11th Discourse
Oddly enough, being restricted by what ever doubts and pain you might be feeling actually offers a chance to explore parts of your life you may never have encountered before. The crazy bustle of daily life prevents most of us from turning inward. If you can treat this as a rare opportunity instead of a fear ridden burden, you will be able to experience a phenomenon most people never know. Use this time as wisely as you can. We understand how limitation and suffering can restrict one’s attention; can draw one’s awareness into that dark, intense pool of distress. It cannot be denied that to move beyond such agony takes courage - great courage - and your bravery is being acknowledged throughout this book. So even by attempting these exercises you are making it worthwhile because in doing so you are touching the part of you that is perfection. Experiencing this - even for a fleeting moment - is transforming. This is without question your highest achievement.
12th Discourse
Now that you know you are not your physical body, you can begin to explore a more revolutionary way of looking at life. It is helpful to know Science has reported that at the deepest level the ‘stuff’ of matter is actually energy. Helpful because this is what our physical form is made up of – energy. Even more than this, science tells us that 99% of our body is space; those scattered clouds of supposed electrons that seems to be whirling around a nucleus only make up 1% of our physical body. So in an odd way your difficulties - especially if they are physical - stem from just a tiny part of you, the rest is space; space brimming with information. This is part of the void that science has labeled ‘zero point’ and the church has labeled god. The complexity of all this information does not really have to be fully understood. Suffice to say, you are far more than your physical body. Consciousness expands into a void that offers unlimited knowledge, and you are part of that consciousness.
13th Discourse
Breathe deeply into your heart’s space. Allow yourself to drift slowly out into a calm and gentle place. Move past all the chatter of the left brain. Don’t bother to stop it; it needs to keep assessing and judging for that is its purpose. Chose to acknowledge it usefulness and just drift on. This babble will splash as mindlessly as water over rocks so there is no need for you to notice. If the stress is impossible to ignore treat it as the warning it is; you already know the reason your body’s alarm system is screaming at you so move on; breathing and expanding; touching the joy offered by your inner self. It is around this time in your journey that you may start to take note of the wisdom being given to you. Perhaps you might be able to jot down a few of the feelings or insights you receive. Some hear words, some have to write, some see via the imagery of symbols. However it comes, by claiming this knowledge you are being given the opportunity to both help yourself and others – for there are many people experiencing states of distress similar to your own.
14th Discourse
By accepting that you are more than your body you have moved past obstacles set by the society we live in. In this world all attention is centred on substance; on materialism; where acquiring ‘more’ is the major rule of the game; where treating the body as solid matter is an acceptable view of medicine; where reality is a solid 3 dimensional state and where illusion is never discussed. The essence of who we are is seldom mentioned just as the core of our being is seldom recognised. At this time, as you move into your most profound identity, it is quite easy to let go of any shallow expectations. Reaching this point in your life is giving you the opportunity to discover who you really are. The excitement awaiting you in your future is quite beyond what you can imagine now. For if you are more than your body, and if only the body dies, then imagine what wonders await. Drift further - go inside these feelings of wonder. Allow your inner self to become your guide and begin to accept that there are other worlds existing along side this reality, worlds you are allowed to explore – when you are ready.
15th Discourse
Time is linear; only the body dies; matter is a 3rd dimensional substance; we are almost entirely made up of space; the loving intelligence within the void is around us; is inside us. These are concepts that expand human existence but up until now, most people in our society have little knowledge about. This new awareness will help change your present situation. If you will allow it, the world we have been told is real might suddenly tilt to quite a skewed angle. Your limitation is part of that world but here you have the chance to open up to a more exciting reality. Breathing into your heart and listening to your inner self will help you know more. New knowledge will give you a profound understanding of who you are and what living and dying is all about.
16th Discourse
If your search is sincere and truely honest then much of your past life will begin to make sense. Never chastise yourself for past deeds, for guilt is pointless. Forgiveness is a profound law of the Universe so forgive yourself first. Know that you acted through a sad lack of understanding. Be thankful for the changes taking place now. Self- forgiveness will lead to empathy for others, making it easy to forgive the damage people may have inflicted upon you. You now know that they too acted through lack of understanding. As you allow your inner wisdom to throw a spotlight on your past actions and events, be gentle, both with yourself and all those around you.
17th Discourse
Don’t worry about losing time, losing your youth, losing your relationships, losing your health, even losing your life, for all things are temporary. By breathing into the heart’s intelligence you will begin to accept that life is on-going and forever. In this culture we do not talk about death, but it is as important as life. If you begin to listen to your own inner wisdom it will explain in far better language than what is written here, how one switches from one state of consciousness to another as the body lets go of life’s energy patterns. The switch as the body dies is almost seamless and our continuing existence is so subtle that some folks miss it altogether, many of them not realising (for some time) that their body has ceased to function. If you become aware of laws controlling these transforming energies you will have an opportunity to fully appreciate the next stage of consciousness.
18th Discourse
Your courage as you move through life’s limitations is quite magnificent, so allow yourself to be honoured and congratulated. Accept at this time you are expanding, and expanding. Despite the negative beliefs that have caged your life up until now; despite the fear; despite the agonies of thought; despite the stress of not having enough; despite the losses, your life is flowering not decaying. Look towards nature for guidance and know that because humanity is a part of nature the same rules apply. Birth, decay, death and new life are the forces that create our world. Remember that nature too is made up of 99% space, so that trees, animals, grasses, insects, consist mainly of the energy of the void. Recognise your courage, recognise your link to all of nature and most of all recognise that your consciousness is part of the all pervading, loving intelligence of the universe.
19th Discourse
Breathe gently into the heart and relax. Feel the Love expanding internally, rejoice in the certain knowledge that there is much more to this life than you have ever realised and that right now you are on the brink of a multitude of amazing revelations that will take you far beyond the text of this book. Each experience will be unique yet will be understood by all of us – so allow this new energy of love to fill your life and let the rest of us know what you have discovered.
20th Discourse
Record any insights you have as you begin to move through this new reality. Accept any feelings, words, or visions that you might receive and try to let others know what you are being shown. This magnificent life that you are living needs to be shared because beneath all the chatter, all the shallow expectation, all the judgement, misunderstanding and fear, we are bound together. We are all connected through consciousness. We all feel empty therefore we constantly seek the unconditional love you have now experienced. Because we intuitively know this is our natural state, we long to feel it again.
By shedding light on these natural laws you will allow others to open up to the same wonder.
